Eclipse battles polio with song

Step back in time, or relive your youth, for a good cause this weekend at the Brewery Arts Center.

Eclipse, a Reno-based Pink Floyd tribute band named for one of the '60s rock band's songs, is playing in the BAC Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21. The two-hour concert, sponsored by the BAC and Shaheen Beauchamp Builders, will benefit Carson Noon Rotary Club and its work with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to eradicate polio throughout the world.

The band plays all of the Pink Floyd classic album Dark Side of the Moon and cuts from some of the band's other albums, including The Wall, Animals, Wish You Were Here and Momentary Lapse of Reason.

The concert also features a laser light show, projected video and computer visuals created by Psychadelicious Productions in Reno.

"We use some of the original film from Pink Floyd to give you that Pink Floyd experience," said Dave Marino, Eclipse's lead guitarist and vocalist. "There's a whole generation of kids who never got to see Pink Floyd live. They can get a flavor, a slice of past rock history. I've had people tell me they can close their eyes and feel like they're at a Pink Floyd concert."

The three-year old band was founded by Marino, who says his playing style was influenced by Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. Marino, a freelance web designer, also acts as the band's manager and webmaster. The band's Web site can be found at eclipsetribute.com.

On bass and lead vocals is Vince Gates, who also owns and operates Carson City's Play Your Own Music store. Rob Lawrence plays piano, organ and synthesizers and owns his own recording studio and record label, Humblebee Records Inc. in Reno. Lars Cerio, on drums and percussion, has opened for such artists as Stevie Ray Vaughn and Stanley Clarke and worked with producers such as Eric Burden of The Animals. Kathie Hull, backup vocals, performs a solo on "The Great Gig in the Sky."
