Jimmy G's has ribbon cutting

Carson City's Jimmy G's Cigar Bar staged a ribbon cutting event Thursday night, attracting a few dozen people to the bar at 311 N Carson St.

The bar, which opened in June, offers about a hundred varieties of cigars, priced from $6 to $32, as well as spirits.

"We have high-end cigars, high-end booze, wine, hot girls, nice bartender," owner Susan Melvin said.

OSHA training offered

Western Nevada College will offer construction workers safety training to prepare for the new state laws that take effect Jan. 1

To reduce workplace injuries, the 2009 Nevada Legislature enacted a law requiring construction workers to complete an Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour safety course and supervisors to complete a 30-hour OSHA training course no later than 15 days after being hired.

The ten-hour course for new hires will take place on Dec. 12 through Dec. 13 the WNC Carson City campus, 2201 W. College Parkway. Cost is $95.

A 30-hour course for supervisors is also offered Dec. 14 through Dec. 17 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $275.

A $95 training session will also take place at the WNC Douglas campus, 1680 Bently Parkway South in Minden, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 12 and 13.

"We want to help employees avoid injury and possible medical bills as well as avoid fines and hassles from the regulatory agency. The real goal is to improve safety on the job site and ensure that supervisors and workers know more about preventing the types of injuries, such as falls, that can occur," said Scott Penzel, the college's director of workforce development.
