Writer tired of shooting himself in the foot

It's a cruel prank Dr. Paslov is playing on the citizens of Nevada.

In his Nov. 7 commentary, "Let's stop shooting ourselves in the foot," he closes by stating, "Let's send Sen. Reid back to the Senate. That will be the smart thing to do."

Vote for Harry - that's scary!

Harry Reid has been in Washington, D.C., for so long his mind has become addled. He has publicly stated our federal income tax is a voluntary program. It might be for some in Washington, but the rest of us get heavy penalties for not paying them.

Harry Reid has so much regard for the citizens of Nevada he wants to give amnesty and citizenship to all the illegal aliens in this country.

Harry Reid has so much regard for Nevada citizens that he wants to give free medical aid to these illegal aliens. We currently spend $2.5 billion a year on Medicaid for illegal aliens, and this is rising.

Harry Reid has so much regard for the citizens of Nevada that $12 billion a year is being spent on primary and secondary school education for children of these illegal aliens, and this amount is steadily increasing. Some of this money could be used to help in the education of our young Nevada citizens.

I believe in helping others, but I more strongly believe charity starts at home.

Yes, I'm tired of shooting myself in the foot.

Sending the wrong

message about guns?

The following three items appeared in the Nevada Appeal's Oct. 22 edition:

• A man was sentenced to "life in prison without parole ... for using a deadly weapon in the killing" of a 17-year-old Carson City resident (page 1).

• "An exchange of gunfire ... left two men dead and a third in serious condition" in Reno (page 6).

• And an article previewing Carson City's pre-Halloween ghost walk

("Cost: ... $10 for children 6 to 12 years old, free for children under 6") included a photograph showing men from a "gunfighters" group, shooting blanks (presumably at other out-of-view group members) in the downtown residential-and-office neighborhood during last year's event (page 5). Similar gunfire was a part of this year's ghost walk.

My question: Does this category of six-shooter entertainment in our state capital send the wrong message to children about the proper use of firearms - regardless of how thoroughly the audience is lectured beforehand?

Trash latest target

for local thieves

I think the people of Carson City should be advised that someone is stealing trash from barrels put out on the street for collection.

We put our trash on the curb on Furnace Creek Drive at 8 a.m. for a 4 p.m. pickup. The trash was gone at 8:10 a.m. I contacted Waste Management and they did not pick it up at that time.

Thieves are on the lookout for vital information put into our trash. I also think the police should be watching for this kind of theft.
