The Comstock is looking for kids of all age groups, grades K-12, to help decorate the official 2009 Virginia City Sesquicentennial (150th Anniversary) Christmas tree.

The "Christmas on The Comstock" celebration kicks off with a special ornament contest for kids in three different age groups: grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. There's also a special category for families who wish to enter.

First and second prizes will be awarded in each category and all entries will adorn the 25-foot Christmas tree that will be lit on Saturday in the center of town. There is no cost to enter the contest and all entries will be placed on the tree.Winners will be allowed to ride in the annual Christmas Parade of Lights which takes place at 5 p.m. on C Street.

Public viewing of the ornaments will take place at the Silverland Hotel in Virginia City from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, followed by the official judging and then placement on the giant tree where they will stay for the entire holiday season.
