October is national Disability Awareness Month and two events at Western Nevada College Carson City will bring notice to issues facing the disabled, as well as challenges that many disabled persons have overcome.

At 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, Western will host a talk by a paraplegic who is excelling in a grueling and difficult contact sport: wheelchair rugby.

Dr. Alan E. Fruzzetti of the University of Nevada, Reno will lecture at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, a form of talk therapy that may help in treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder. The therapy is designed to help decrease suicidal behaviors, self-injuring behaviors, and actions that interfere with the treatment process and the person's quality of life.

Both events will be at Marlette Hall in the Cedar Building. They are free. Information: 445-3266.
