General Grant will leave San Francisco on the night of the 27th by special train for Virginia, so as to pass the Sierras by daylight. He will be here on the 29th, and after stopping two days on the Comstock, will start direct for Galena.

100 YEARS AGO

Pinenut Harvest is a Weather Forecast: The Indians have all returned from harvesting pine nuts in the mountains in the southern part of the county and now their new neighbors are enjoying the delicious nuts. The crop of pine nuts is very small and according to Indian tradition, the upcoming season will be a mild one. The Indians believe that the Great Spirit always gives a bountiful harvest to provide them with plenty of food through a hard winter.

70 YEARS AGO

Alex McCharles is pictured as Abraham Lincoln on the front page of the Appeal. McCharles is featured as an emblem of the Nevada Day Parade. "The tradition Nevada built belongs to all of us," wrote Clark Guild, Chairman of the Nevada Day Parade Committee. "When we remember them (the pioneers) we share with them in their accomplishments, immeasurably strengthening the spiritual fibre of our land."

50 YEARS AGO

Errol Flynn, the swashbuckling celluloid lover both off and on the screen has died in Vancouver, B.C. of a heart attack while vacationing with his 17-year-old girlfriend. Flynn was in Canada negotiating the sale of his yacht "Zaca."

20 YEARS AGO

Governor Bob Miller reiterated his refusal to store military radioactive wastes from a Colorado facility when asked by White House officials.

10 YEARS AGO

Fourteen future golfers of the PGA tour will play the Dayton Valley Golf Club next week in the first steps to earn a tour card.
