130 YEARS AGO

Every day comes to us complaints of non-delivery by our subscribers. We have a careful carrier, and we know that prowling birds of prey have regularly snatched them. There is one way to obviate all this. It will cost no more than an hour's work to put a box with a slit on top, into which a carrier will insert the paper. This will keep the greedy literary prowlers buying their own Appeal.

100 YEARS AGO

Mrs Raycraft, mother of James, Arthur and the other Raycrafts, was 91 years old this week. At her home in Genoa she prepared dinner for 12 persons just to show her daughter, Mrs. Campbell, that she could do it. Her table at her hotel in Genoa has been the best in this section of the country for half a century.

70 YEARS AGO

Burton F. Williamson, 43, has been sentenced to die in the Nevada lethal gas chamber the week of Nov. 18 for the murder of his wife, her daughter and son-in-law in front of a Salt Wells Station 16 miles east of Fallon. He has expressed no regret for his actions and wants the execution over as soon as possible.

50 YEARS AGO

A move to return to biennial sessions of the Nevada State Legislature was launched today. It was predicted the plan would "sweep the state like brushfire." The plan was sought because biennial sessions are adequate for Nevada and biennial sessions would slow the spiraling costs of state government. The last session ran 67 days and cost $287,269.

20 YEARS AGO

A woman doctor was freed when sheriff's deputies stormed the Nevada State Prison and killed the inmate holding her captive for 10 hours. The inmate was killed when he lunged at officers with a knife. Fourteen years prior to the incident, the inmate had killed Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Gary Gifford while robbing a South Lake Tahoe bank.

10 YEARS AGO

Negotiations have broken down between actor Max Baer and the Reno shopping center where Baer wants to build Jethro's Beverly Hills Mansion and Casino.
