LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Colin Kaepernick threw for three touchdowns while the nation's leading rushing team continued to chalk up big yards as Nevada topped Utah State 35-32 Saturday.
The Wolf Pack (3-3, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference) had rushed an average 289 yards a game this season, but the team outdid itself, gaining 313 against the Aggies (1-5, 0-2).
Nevada took its first lead, 28-24, on a fourth-quarter 49-yard pass from Kaepernick to Brandon Wimberly. The Wolf Pack then got to 35-24 after Luke Lippincott ran for a 69-yard touchdown.
USU tried to come back when Nnamdi Gwacham caught a 14-yard pass from Diondre Borel, who also tossed three TDs. After a successful two-point conversion that brought the score to 35-32, USU attempted an onside kick.
The Aggies recovered the kick but were hit with a penalty. The Wolf Pack snagged the second attempt and ran out the clock.
Kaepernick came into the game completing 66 percent of his passes on the season, but he only went 10-of-24 for 189 yards against the Aggies. He also ran for 77 yards on 13 attempts, many of them on critical third-down plays. Nevada had five sacks on Borel.
USU scored first when Robert Turbin took a pitch in the first quarter and ran it in from the 1-yard line.
The first play of the next quarter was an interception at midfield by Aggie James Brindley. Nine plays later, Borel found Eric Moats in the end zone on an eight-yard pass to put USU up 14-0 with 12:25 to play.
It only took Nevada four plays to score next, with Kaepernick finding Lipincott on an 11-yard pass, after Vai Taua ran 67 yards to get the Wolf Pack within striking distance. Taua was Nevada's leading rusher with 150 yards on 21 carries.
The halftime score 21-14 for USU, who had 254 yards of total offense at halftime. Borel had 353 yards passing in the game, a career-high.
