We are sorry for having cinched a friend; but Hank Monk called on us last night and remarked that we had beat him out of twenty cocktails by saying he had joined the reform club; "But," added Hank, "I don't care a darn; twenty women I didn't know, shook hands with me yesterday, an' said they was my friends an' members of the Reform Club."

100 YEARS AGO

The big poker game that has raged for two days and nights came to an end last night with the physical exhaustion of the players. It has been many years since the old fashioned poker game has been seen here, where thousands of dollars were on the table and players sat hour after hour, day upon day, with all players staying to the end. One player was so stiff that he made an attempt to rise, but had two friends carry him home.

70 YEARS AGO

How will the Carson High Senator football team do against Stewart this weekend? The Senators are two games ahead this season, having won both at a score of 6-0. Last year the team was soundly trounced 40-0 by the Indians, and it is hoped the Carson boys work on carrying out each assignment on every play.

50 YEARS AGO

A California criminologist told the legislative commission that Nevada peace officers need a statewide bureau of criminal identification and investigation. The need for a CII bureau in Nevada was heartily supported by all but a few of the peace officers in the 17 counties.

20 YEARS AGO

A woman doctor held hostage at the Nevada State Prison 10 hours last Friday was on the job again this week.

10 YEARS AGO

Once upon a time almost 30 years ago a member of the League to Save Lake Tahoe had a brain flash and said, "why not put a Keep Tahoe Blue bumper sticker on our cars?" The sticker has remained a symbol of Tahoe pride since.
