Genoa had a wonderful craft event just recently (Candy Dance).

Thank you to many private owners too, who used their acreage to let vendors show their wares. This made this event much bigger and better with more choices.

Many customers were happy and delighted and came back a second day to shop. They said, "It was Christmas shopping done early." Working together as a team is so important and this is what America is all about.

Kudos and thank you to the National Guard and other agencies supporting the drive-through flu immunizations at the armory on Oct. 10.

At 10:30 a.m. we were in and out in less than 5 minutes. It was a very well-organized operation and staffed by pleasant and efficient folks. An excellent example of tax-supported socialized health care.

I wish to thank all those who helped with the drive-through for flu shots at the armory.

Thank you to our Nevada National Guard - excellent service and directions.

Thank you y'all to our Carson High students and all the volunteers who put in long hours directing traffic and helping to fill out forms.

Thank you especially to Carson City Health Department. You do good, kids. Thank you to all the volunteer RNs and PAs, you were fantastic.

Thank you to all those who helped coordinate traffic flow - the sheriff and all their volunteers were super.

Over the last few months, as president of the Women's Council for the Builders Association of Western Nevada, I have had the pleasure of working with a group of the most professional and hard-working women in business. Our goal was to put together the "Helping Hands" program. This program was designed to assist single female homeowners who needed minor repairs to their homes but were unable to do the repairs on their own.

The council, which is made up of all volunteers, includes Nichole Wassen, Argent Insurance; Janine Green, Green Quality Construction; Julie Hearn, Southwest Gas; Jana Lease, Incline Builders; Carol Lee Chandler, BB&I and Nicola Neilon, Casey, Neilon and Associates. A special thanks is extended to these hard-working, talented women.

These women took an idea and from it organized and created a fantastic program. On Saturday, Sept. 26, the program was launched, affecting 13 houses in Carson City, Reno, Lyon County and Douglas County. Each member took a construction crew made up of employees from Miles Construction, Tahoe Fence, BSA Construction, Jares Construction, Green Quality Construction, Incline Builders, and Ridgeline Development to make much needed repairs.

NV Energy donated light bulbs, water heater blankets, smoke detectors, weather stripping, caulk, and low flow shower heads. Rite of Passage also brought their crews to help with the projects and, at the end of a very productive day, they stayed to celebrate the success of this wonderful program by cooking at our barbecue.

I want to thank those who donated prizes for the raffle to raise the funds for the program; Carson City Toyota, Silver Oak Golf Course, Eagle Valley Golf Course, Argent Insurance, Southwest Gas, Miles Construction, Casey Neilon and Associates, and Gold Dust West. The entire council extends a sincere thank you to BAWN for supporting us in this endeavor.

I am honored to be president of this extraordinary group of women who together keep making a positive difference in other's lives.

The Carson City Shade Tree Council conducted a pruning workshop Sept. 13. The workshop was free and open to anyone interested in proper tree care. It was held at the Greenhouse Garden Center.

David Ruf of Greenhouse Garden Center explained the many benefits of trees to those attending the workshop. David led a tour of the Greenhouse Garden Center grounds. During the tour, David told those present which species of trees do well in Carson City and why.

Keith Jermalowicz of Healthy Trees led the pruning portion of the workshop, which emphasized proper pruning methods and the best times to prune a tree. Keith also demonstrated proper pruning techniques.

The Shade Tree Council has received much positive feedback from those people who attended the workshop.

The council feels that the workshop was a success because of David and Keith's participation. Because of the positive feedback the workshop received, the council plans on conducting another one next fall.

The council would like to thank David and Keith for all their help in making the workshop a success.
