Dayton Valley Sports Expo canceled

The Dayton Valley Sports Expo, scheduled for Sept. 17-20 has been canceled.

The event was coordinated by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, and was canceled due to lack of vendor participation. Expo questions should be directed to Susan Skaggs, executive director, at 775-246-7909.


Mayor to address Chamber breakfast

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell will speak at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce's "Changing Community" breakfast at

8 a.m. Sept. 16 at the

Carson Nugget.

Also in attendance will be city supervisors Pete Livermore and Shelly Aldean, and City Manager Larry Werner.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will have its monthly mixer at Red's Old 395 Grill at 5 p.m. Sept. 16. The event is free, and a good place to network with other business professionals.

NBC September breakfast meeting

The next monthly Nevada Business Connections breakfast meeting will be on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 8 a.m. at the Carson Nugget.

This breakfast features two speakers: D. J. Whittemore of Western Nevada College and College World Series coach, will present "Developing Tomorrow's Leaders."

Guy Rocha, Nevada State archivist emeritus, will present "Nevada Classic Stories."

Krolicki to deliver State of the Economy

Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki will be the keynote speaker for the Northern Nevada Development Authority's State of the Economy event on Sept. 30 at the Carson Nugget.

Krolicki will share the successes of the state's economic development efforts in recent months within the Sierra region. He will emphasize Nevada's ongoing strengths while also highlighting the resources Nevada has available to businesses.

Also speaking will be Michael Skaggs, executive director of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, and Rob Hooper, NNDA executive director.

New faces introduced at Mount Rose resort

Mount Rose hired new Food & Beverage Manager Thomas Monarrez and public relations/Web Manager Kayla Anderson in August 2009.

Monarrez is originally from Sacramento, Calif., but has been in the Reno/Sparks area since 1974. He served six years in the military and has been at the Golden Tavern Group as the Regional Operations Manager for the past five years.

"I'm very excited to be here and expand our horizons with catering and on-site events, as well as bring our guests new and exciting menu options," Monarrez said.

Anderson is originally from Redding, Calif. but has lived in Incline Village, for the past two years. She worked at Diamond Peak Ski Resort as the marketing coordinator before joining the Mount Rose team as the Web manager.

"I'm eager to promote the new Slide Lodge and publish information about Mount Rose specials, deals, and events on www.skirose.com," Anderson said. "I also can't wait to try the chutes this season!"

Also, former administration assistant Susan Hahn has been promoted to office manager. Hahn has been with Mount Rose for six years and is known as the voice of the snow phone.

Supervisory Skills workshops offered

The-6 session workshop entitled Supervisory Skills I is being offered in Carson City for the last time this year from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Thursdays from Sept. 10 through Oct. 15 at Casino Fandango, 3800 Carson St.

Topics include: Leading & Managing, Employment Law, Wage & Hour, Substance Abuse in the Workplace, Discipline & Discharge, Workplace Environment (avoiding harassment /discrimination & valuing diversity), and Performance Management & Reviews.

Fees are $275 for Nevada Association of Employers members or $425 for non-members.
