130 YEARS AGO

Drive: From Swift's big wash tub (now Carson Hot Springs), there was a heavy dust hanging over the plain toward the State Prison. It was thought a big zephyr was coming on a visit. It turned out to be Swift's family of Angora goats on their way to Washoe Lake to pasture. The band was a splendid sight in the early morning.

120 YEARS AGO

Picnic: The miners of the Comstock will be reveling in the cool shade and the green grass, enjoying the flowers, the sunshine and the pretty girls at Treadway Park. After a man has swung a pick a whole year in the underground of the old Lode, he wants a change and Carson is the place.

70 YEARS AGO

Advertisement: Carson Theater, "Second Fiddle" with Sonja Henie, Tyrone Power, Rudie Vallee. "From school marm to movie star when a talent scout takes a pretty teacher to movie role of the year."

50 YEARS AGO

Carson City added 900 residents in the 12 months ending July 1, 1988, resulting in a growth rate of 2.4 percent. Nevada is the nation's fastest-growing state in the nation between 1980 and 1988.

10 YEARS AGO

The Great Reno Balloon Race takes place at San Rafael Park in Reno with 120 to 130 hot air balloons, one of those belong to Nevada Bell and is piloted by Gardnerville's Allen Anderson.
