Change of command for Guard training center

Lt. Col. Joanne T. Farris of Reno became new commander of the Nevada Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 421st Regiment (Regional Training Institute) Sunday in a change of ceremony at the Stead Training Center north of Reno.

Farris assumed command from Lt. Col. Cori Powers of Fernley.

The 421st RTI is the Nevada Army National Guard's home for professional development training for a variety of skill qualifications, noncommissioned officer development and officer training.

During a military career that spans 21 years, Farris has held numerous positions in the National Guard, including as commander of Joint Force Headquarters in Carson City.

Powers, who assumed command two years ago, currently works full time as the U.S. Property and Fiscal Office's deputy director of logistics in Carson City.
