130 YEARS AGO

Another Magnificent Horse: "Hercules," which was taken to Genoa a few days ago, was held at Benton's stable recently. Now in his place is another horse, which has captured the admiration of onlookers. This one is eighteen hands high and weighs 2,300 pounds. He is called "The Iron Duke," and is coal black with a tail that sweeps the dirt. His mane, which is as glossy as silk, reaches the ground and his hoofs are the size of ordinary dinner plates.

100 YEARS AGO

The annual dance of the Eagles will become quite an affair. Many stunts will be introduced that will make this one of the affairs of the century.

70 YEARS AGO

Joseph F. McDonald, a Reno newspaper editor, was appointed representative of employers to the Nevada unemployment compensation division, Robert McGinty, division director, announced today.

50 YEARS AGO

Gov. Grant Sawyer is busy this week with a National Guard Armory dedication in Ely and is to address the Fallon High School in the morning and meet with officials on highway issues in the afternoon. The governor plans visits in Winnemucca and Lovelock the following week.

20 YEARS AGO

Conditions remain critical at the Carson Jail where 76 inmates are housed. Cells have three inmates each with cots in hallways and in other open areas. If any more are arrested, the jailees will have to be transferred to Douglas or the Nevada State Prison.

10 YEARS AGO
