Lantrip shines in Nevada scrimmage

RENO - Junior quarterback Tyler Lantrip threw a touchdown pass and scored one on the ground to lead the Blue past the Silver 35-15 in the annual season-ending spring scrimmage.

Lantrip completed 12 of 17 passes for 148 yards with one touchdown pass and rushed for 48 yards and one score to lead the Blue team. Sophomore Mike Ball led the ground attack, rushing for 67 and a score, while junior Rishard Mathews, a transfer from Bakersfield JC, caught five balls for 87 yards.

The Blue scored on its first three possessions of the day.

Lantrip completed a 2-yard pass to senior Moe Patterson for the first score, while sophomore Mike Ball made it 14-0 with a 5-yard run. Lantrip then scored on the ground with a 26-yard run.

The Blue defense held the Silver offense in check most of the day, allowing just 45 rushing yards and picking off three passes by senior Colin Kaepernick, who threw for 113 yards on 8-of-16 passing and one touchdown. Junior Corbin Louks, sophomore Duke Williams and junior James-Michael Johnson each had interceptions for the Blue team, while the Blue defense also scored on a 2-yard fumble recovery/return by junior Shane Anderson.
