LAS VEGAS (AP) - The North Las Vegas City Council has approved a budget-reduction plan that will eliminate 16 firefighter positions and 188 other municipal jobs by June 18.

Acting City Manager Maryann Ustick said the Thursday vote means library and recreation center hours will be restricted, and city road, park and facility maintenance will be deferred.

North Las Vegas Municipal Court will cease night sessions.

No police will lose their jobs under the plan aimed at saving about $25 million in a city dealing with a projected shortfall of more than $58 million in next year's budget.

Mayor Shari Buck voted against the plan, saying she couldn't support cutting firefighters.

She says she hopes labor unions will agree to concessions to save some jobs.
