130 YEARS AGO

The Carson Theater, aka Johnny Moore's Theater, will likely change hands today due to judgments against the property. Moore, one of Carson's earliest and most venturesome pioneers, was one of the advance guard in this then uninviting region of sagebrush. The Carson Theater was the first of its kind, having been built in 1860. The first act opening was brought in by John Stark, who played the cardinal in Richelieu.

100 YEARS AGO

One of the big industries of Nevada is that of the manufacturing and shipping of gypsum from a plant in Mound House. It is said to be one of the finest opened in the state. Lovelock is now bidding for that honor with a large plant at Reno to handle the Lovelock produce. It is said that Nevada is now producing all of the gypsum consumed in San Francisco.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Harold J. Berger entertained yesterday in honor of Robert's fifth birthday anniversary. Those invited were Ruth and Sally Thom, Carol Herberth, Shirley McElroy, Norman Prince, Janet Nelson, Roberta and Robert Cochran, Shirley Amodei, Betty Ann Olmsted, Roger and Duane Glanzmann, Garry Johnson, Buddy Miller, Joann Foster, Joanne Berger, JoAnn Lyman, Diane and Paul Osgood and Robert Meginness.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson Hot Springs dining room will have a continental flavor Friday when it takes a sublease by Stephan M. Peterhans. Peterhans is a native of Switzerland.

20 YEARS AGO

Justice of the Peace Robey Willis filed for office today seeking election to the non-partisan post he's held for a year.

10 YEARS AGO

Children with matches have been blamed for a fire that engulfed an abandoned business on two acres of land off Highway 50 east.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
