Melodramas on stage in historic Dayton

"A Simple 'I Do' Will Do or Another Dowry, If You Please" melodrama by the Dayton Misfits Theater Group, continues at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The play will be upstairs at historic Odeon Hall on Pike Street in Dayton.

The play has a surprise ending when truth again triumphs over evil.

Artists reception for spring exhibit

An artist's reception for Nadine Prior will be 5-7 p.m. April 24 in the NAA Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center, 499 W. King St.

Prior's watercolor and oil paintings are on display at the gallery through April 30.

She is a featured artists in the "Spring Has Sprung" art exhibition, on display through May 21.

The exhibit features local and regional artists showing their latest paintings, photographs, sculptures, jewelry and fine crafts.

'Rock Art of Nevada' lecture planned

Angus Quinlan, executive director of the Nevada Rock Art Foundation, presents Rock Art of Nevada at 6:30 p.m. April 22, immediately following a free reception for the Rock Art Perspec-tives exhibit.

The reception begins at 5 p.m.

Quinlan will describe the heritage significance of Nevada rock art and the work of the Nevada Rock Art Foundation.

This free lecture is part of the museum's monthly Frances Humphrey Lecture Series. For information, call 775-687-4810.

Basketmakers turn trash into art

Celebrate Earth Day at the Nevada State Museum from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and learn how to turn trash into art.

Pat Wescott, Cornelia Kallerud and Karen Olson will transform plastic and paper bags into cordage and baskets, plus show how to recycle fencing wire and baling twine to colorful sculptures and what to do with old garden hoses and soda cans.

Swing-dance club to host dinner-dance

High Sierra Swing Dance Club invites the public to its third-annual Swing Into Spring dinner-dance gala April 24 at the Carson City Nugget.

The semi-formal/formal-attire evening begins with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m. A sumptuous buffet dinner follows at 6:30 p.m. The dancing starts at 7 p.m. to a variety of DJ music. Raffle prizes of services and goods from local merchants will be awarded, and a swing-dance demonstration team will perform.
