Paul Vincent Carlin Jr. passed away of natural causes Friday, April 16, 2010, in the home of his daughter Cynthia Vranken. He was 92 years old. Paul was born on March 20, 1918, in Belvidere, Ill., to Gertrude and Paul Vincent Carlin Sr. He lived in Rockford, Ill., where he graduated from high school. He later lived in Elgin, Ill. He attended one year at University of California, Los Angeles

He married MaryAnn Gillilan in 1942 and they had six children. Paul has been a Carson City resident since 1970. He has done everything from selling cars (Packard's), distributing Edelweiss Beer, running a Clarke Gas station in Elgin to comptroller of AMF Manufacturing Company in Carson City in the '70s and '80s. He retired in 1983.

He is survived by his wife Isabelle (Biz) Kephart Carlin; his sons Paul V. Carlin III of Spokane, Wash., Carlton Carlin of Aiken, S.C., Kevin Carlin, of San Diego, Calif., and his daughters Cynthia Vranken and Cara Fenn of Carson City; stepchildren Elliot Sattler of Tinian, Mariana Islands, Mark Sattler of Carson City, Dena Strasser of Spokane; and his only nephew, Stephen Long. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 15 great-grand children.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved uncles Carlton, Arthur, and Robert Meyers; his first wife MaryAnn; his sister Alice Marie Long; his daughter Dana Marie Carlin; and his stepson Joseph Sattler Jr. of Falmouth.

Paul was an avid golfer, golfing daily until he was 86, cutting back to 2-3 times a week after a total knee replacement. When he could no longer walk the course, he gave up his beloved sport.

His family would like to thank St. Mary's Hospice for their tender loving care of this very special man - in particular Joanie, Pam, Ellen and Chaplin Dan, four exceptional human beings!

A celebration of a life well lived will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22 at Autumn Funeral Home on Lompa Lane, with a reception to follow.
