Nevada's historic preservation officer has been appointed to the National Park System Advisory Board.

Ron James has served the past six years on the National Historic Landmarks Committee, which recommends listing of historic properties to the advisory board.

"Throughout his career, Ron has shown his commitment to preserving Nevada's history and heritage," said Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev. "I'm confident that he'll continue to protect Nevada's and our nation's parks during his term."

James has been in charge of Nevada's Office of Historic Preservation since 1983.

In 1991, he organized the Commission for Cultural Affairs, which has awarded more than $40 million to restore and preserve historic buildings in Nevada as cultural centers.
