SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Barry Zito struck out 10 over eight dominant innings, pinch-hitter Andres Torres singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth and the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 on Saturday night.

Zito outpitched Adam Wainwright (3-1) to come out on top in an impressive pitchers' duel, earning his first career victory against the Cardinals after starting 0-4 over his initial five outings.

San Francisco took the series opener 4-1 on Friday night to end a four-game skid, then the Giants handed the Cardinals their first series defeat of the year. St. Louis won its opening five sets.

Resembling his old Cy Young Award self from eight years ago with Oakland, Zito (3-0) allowed three hits and walked three in the 114-pitch performance. Brian Wilson pitched the ninth for his fourth save in four tries and second of the series.

Marlins 4, Rockies 1, 1st game. Rockies 8, Marlins 1, 2nd game

DENVER (AP) - Aaron Cook overcame his early-season struggles to throw a five-hitter, Miguel Olivo hit his 100th career homer and Colorado gained a doubleheader split.

In the opener, Ricky Nolasco limited the Rockies to one run in eight innings and Dan Uggla and Brett Carroll each homered in Florida's victory.

Showcasing the effective sinker that had eluded him in his three previous outings, Cook (1-2) struck out four and walked two in his 32nd career win at Coors Field - the most by any pitcher at the ballpark. He also singled twice and scored two runs.

Florida's Jorge Cantu, who singled in the opener to extend his hitting streak to 21 games, saw the string come to an end in the nightcap. He was hitless in four at-bats, though his sixth-inning groundout drove in the Marlins' run.

Quieted in the opener by Nolasco (2-0), who fanned a season-high nine and walked none in improving to 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA at Coors Field, Rockies batters tagged Nate Robertson (2-1) in the second game.

Leo Nunez got three outs in the opener for his fourth save in five chances.

Greg Smith (1-2) gave up four runs and eight hits in five-plus innings for Colorado in the first game.

Dodgers 4, Nationals 3, 13 innings

WASHINGTON (AP) - Russell Martin lined a two-out RBI single off Miguel Batista in the 13th inning, and Dodgers third baseman Casey Blake threw out the potential tying run at home in the bottom half after homering twice.

Batista (0-2) entered in the 11th and retired the first two batters in the 13th. But Rafael Furcal singled, stole second, and scored on Martin's hit to center on a full count.

Carlos Monasterios (1-0), Los Angeles' seventh pitcher, threw the final 2 2-3 innings. In the 13th, he allowed Ivan Rodriguez's single, then Nyjer Morgan's double, putting runners at second and third with one out. But Blake threw out Rodriguez on Ian Desmond's fielder's choice grounder.

Phillies 3, Diamondbacks 2

PHOENIX (AP) - Jayson Werth hit two homers, including a tiebreaking shot in the ninth inning, and Raul Ibanez also connected to lead Philadelphia.

Philadelphia's home runs spoiled Ian Kennedy's best outing of the season and prevented Arizona from winning consecutive games for the second time this year.

Ibanez tied it with a drive in the seventh inning and Werth hit a mammoth shot to center off Juan Gutierrez (0-2) with two outs in the ninth.

Ryan Madson got three outs for his fourth save in five attempts. Jose Contreras (1-1) struck out three in a scoreless eighth for the win.

Mets 3, Braves 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Jason Bay hit a tying double in the sixth inning, Jeff Francoeur doubled in the go-ahead run with a drive off the 415-foot sign in the seventh and the Mets finally got to Jair Jurrjens in a victory over the reeling Braves.

New York improved to 5-1 on a 10-game homestand and at 9-9 evened their record for the first time since a 2-2 start.

Manny Acosta (1-0) won in relief of a wild Jonathon Niese, Acosta's first major league win since beating the Mets for Atlanta last July 16.

Atlanta has lost four straight, its steepest skid since dropping its final six games last year.

Jurrjens (0-2) entered 6-1 in his career against the Mets, including 4-0 with a 1.60 ERA in five starts last year.

Padres 5, Reds 0

CINCINNATI (AP) - Adrian Gonzalez homered for the second straight day, Wade LeBlanc pitched three-hit ball over six innings and San Diego Padres won its eighth straight.

Will Venable also connected and Yorvit Torrealba added a two-run double to help send the Reds to their eighth loss in 10 games. LeBlanc (1-0) walked two and struck out three.

Johnny Cueto (0-1) lasted six innings and picked up his first decision in four starts. The Padres reached him for seven hits and five runs. Cubs 5, Brewers 1

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Ted Lilly threw six shutout innings in his season debut and Carlos Zambrano made his first appearance out of the bullpen in almost eight years for Chicago.

Lilly (1-0) gave up three hits, struck out four and walked two after being activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game. He was out while recovering from shoulder surgery in November.

Zambrano gave up a run in 1 1-3 innings and had a sacrifice fly in a three-run eighth inning.

To make room in the rotation for Lilly, Zambrano was moved to the bullpen this week after starting the season 1-2 with a 7.45 ERA in four starts.

Doug Davis (0-2) pitched 6 1-3 strong innings for Milwaukee, which has scored just two runs in two games after beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 20-0 Thursday.

Astros 5, Pirates 2

HOUSTON (AP) - Wandy Rodriguez struck out seven to earn his first win, and the Astros beat Pittsburgh in a game that began with Pirates starter Chris Jakubauskas getting hit in the head by Lance Berkman's line drive.

Jakubauskas (0-1), who was called up from the minors on Friday, was making his first start of the season. Berkman drove a 1-0 pitch straight back to the mound in the first inning, and the ball hit Jakubauskas just behind his right ear.

Jakubauskas was taken off the field on a medical cart. He was rushed to a Houston hospital, and was being kept overnight for observation.

Hunter Pence and Pedro Feliz drove in two runs apiece for the Astros, who've won seven of nine since an 0-8 start. Rodriguez (1-2) allowed five hits and one earned run in 7 1-3 innings.
