It's adventure time! Carolyn went to the Mendocino area with Rhota Rosaschi in her motor home, along with Baxter, Rhota's golden retriever. C and Rhota took in the sights of Albion, Fort Bragg and Mendocino, and had a fine time. It was nice and cooool.

In the meantime, Maizie and her cousin Janet drove to Truckee and had breakfast at the Squeeze Inn. They saw all the wild flowers (gorgeous) along the Truckee River and talked to a friend, Bonnie. On to Squaw Valley (M wanted to ride the tram, but Janet balked at that), so they had dessert (which there's always room for) at Plump Jack's, only to find out that Bonnie had called and bought their goodies. A fine way to finish an adventure. One should do that quite often.

Happy birthdays to Claire Clift, Parker Schmid, Sarah Garrett, and a belated HB to Dr. Ed Jesse in Wisconsin. A happy anniversary to Marilyn and Dennis Browns ... 31 years ago today at Lake Tahoe. Let's hope they celebrate it with a nice dinner overlooking the lake.

From a joke off the Internet: Three little old ladies watched a little old man walk in front of them at the home. They told him they could guess his age if he took off all his clothes. He took them up on the bet, and whirled around stark naked. "How old am I?" he asked. "Eighty-nine," the old women replied. Amazed, he said, "How did you know that?" "We were at your birthday party yesterday." Don't underestimate grannies.

There was a great letter from Ken Kidwell in Reno the other day that suggested that all seniors go to jail where they would have warm meals, free comprehensive medical treatment, TV, 24-hour supervision, education, clothes, gardens, outdoor walks and exercise, private rooms and family visits, to name a few. On the other hand, prisoners would move into nursing homes, be left alone, eat cold meals, shower once a week, have no visitors, pay $5,000 a month, and live in a small room where the lights go off at 8 p.m. While all nursing homes don't meet this criteria, it still sounds like a good deal for seniors. Think about it.

Politics, politics, politics ... will it ever end? First of all, who is Kevin Ranft? He's a candidate for the Capital Senatorial District, and has lots of signs up, but who is he? We just don't know. Then there's Rory Reid. He talks about education (and we believe that's a very important issue), but is he a one trick pony? We'd like to hear about the other issues, too, such as how he's going to balance the budget, immigration, taxation, foreclosures, jobs, and all the other problems Nevada faces. All the candidates for local, state and national offices need to take heed ... it's not just Mr. Reid. And for all of you who think government is the problem, remember, it's government that's going to have to solve this stuff.

If you've ever wanted to help a veteran, please do so by buying a raffle ticket(s) ($5 each or five for $20) to benefit Pfc. Timothy Hall, who lost both his legs in Afghanistan in June. Please support him and his family by calling any one of these numbers: (all have a 775 prefix): 316-0667, 316-2739, 316-6888, 316-0679. You can also donate to the "Timothy Hall Benefit" at any Bank of America, or send cards to The Family of Pfc. Timothy Hall at PO Box 834, Hawthorne, NV 89415. He is still in Walter Reed recovering from his mortar wounds. He could sure use your thanks and support. Enjoy your week.
