130 YEARS AGO

A family in Virginia City buried $1,100 under their house, and when they went to go dig for it they couldn't find any color. They are, however, happy in the satisfaction that none of the savings banks got it; and had they put it in stocks, they would have been called on for mud and been obliged to put up as much more. All's well that ends well.

110 YEARS AGO

Kids did some very dangerous shooting yesterday, and with more luck than science that there wasn't mourning on the doors of several families. The youths in question blew the lock off the powder house with a rifle with several shots going through the building. As several tons of dynamite was stored there, it was a wonder many weren't hurt.

80 YEARS AGO

Many Carsonites are tuning up radios for Friday night when Colonel Lindbergh will give his first talk. Lindbergh's address will be the widest circulation ever according to the Columbia broadcasting system. In addition, the National Broadcasting Company and the British Broadcasting Corporation will pick up the address, estimated to be heard by some 50,000,000 to 75,000,000 persons.

50 YEARS AGO

Senator Alan Bible is taking steps to alleviate the serious drought in Nevada. He is proposing cloud seeding operations. Although Navy aviators seeded Louisiana clouds recently with powdered carbon, effects were seen as "marginal."

20 YEARS AGO

Firefighters are mopping up lightening-caused fires across northwest Nevada ranging from 11⁄2 to 300 acres.

10 YEARS AGO

John Ignacio retires after 25 years at the prison and as warden on 5th Street. In the 140 years the institution has been in operation, Ignacio has served the longest as warden at that time.
