Comedienne, singer and actress Fanny Brice will live again on stage in Northern Nevada when the musical "Funny Girl" is performed Aug. 20-22 in Carson City and Aug. 28 in Sparks.

A cast of 22 veteran musical theater performers from Reno, Sparks, Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Gardnerville will perform the musical story of the life of Fanny Brice.

The musical follows the rise to fame of Fanny Brice and her troubled relationship with Nicky Arnstein.

First made popular by Barbra Streisand, "Funny Girl" includes many familiar songs, including "People" and "Don't Rain on My Parade." Cindy Sabatini portrays Fanny Brice in the Northern Nevada production.

Sabatini also has performed locally as Lucy in "Jekyll & Hyde," Aldonza in "Man of La Mancha" and the baker's wife in "Into the Woods." She is joined in the cast by Jim DeZerga in the role of Nicky Arnstein, Adam Semas as Eddie Ryan, and Olivia Hakel playing Mrs. Brice.

Director and musical director of the production is Christopher Lash, who has also directed the "Musical of Musicals, the Musical" and an original musical version of "Midsummer Night's Dream" for the Nevada Conservatory Theater in Las Vegas. He also has been on staff at the Sacramento Music Circus and the Fort Peck, Montana, Summer Repertory Theater.

The musical will be presented two consecutive weekends. The show will be performed at the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20 and Saturday, Aug. 21. A matinee also will be presented at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 22. Tickets are available through showtix4u.com or by calling 866-967-8167.
