Happy 30th anniversary to Tamie and Rett Jesse, and happy birthdays to Brian Whalen Sr., Terry Ward, Caren Jenkins and Jim Clift; all older than they would like to admit. Welcome home to Harris Heller, just returned from an LDS mission in time to go to the University of Utah.

Last week three prominent Carson City residents passed away. Pat Potter, a wonderful lady who loved her family and friends, was an educator, and active in Democratic politics; Betty Ihfe, the petite and bubbly lady who graced our city and was active in many causes; and Jake Longero, brother of Joy Amodei, uncle of Mark, great family man, athlete and educator.

Have you noticed the beautiful flowers along the main drag these days (and in front of the Cracker Box)? Thanks to those who make the city look loverly.

M had a great ride to the hospital last week with Steve and Kevin of the CC Fire Dept. They, along with three other firemen, responded to her 911 call ... atrial fibrillation excitement again. Felt fine, just a motorcycle motor sound and feel in her pulse. They, and the hospital staff, were great (and it doesn't hurt that they're cute, too ... thanks Stacy). Dr. Edgcomb, Julie, Barbara, Nancy and everyone who treated M were terrific, and she appreciated it mightily, so much so that she went to lunch at Applebee's with her grandson Tyler and C, and was feeling quite up to snuff. Good times (but, we'd find other ways to celebrate the summer if there's a choice). And thanks to Deb, Gail and family for their concerns. M's fine.

"Nine and Dine" at Mallards (Empire Ranch Golf Club) will be 5:30 p.m. Aug. 20. New York steak, orange garlic shrimp, strawberry cheesecake, to name a few, for $29 a person (includes golf and dinner); or $20 for those who don't golf (7:30 p.m. for you). Rod is flattered and says, "Thank you." For reservations call 885-2100. Have a ball and a grand dinner.

M got to meet Gen. Wesley Clark at the Bakers ... he was stumping for Sen. Harry Reid, telling us about the party of "Pro" vs. the party of "No" (you know who you are); also got to go to an Aces game and sit in a box with good company and food, courtesy of daughter and son-in-law, Helaine and Clark Morres. Good times.

The CHS Class of 1964 will be celebrating on Aug. 20 and 21 with cocktails at the Old Globe Friday, and golf and dinner at Eagle Valley on Saturday. Call Steve Grupe at 208-404-9446 for reservations and details.

Wild Horse Children's Theater will have Improv shows at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 and 21 at the Children's Museum. That will be a gas.

And the CTRMC Auxiliary will be holding a leather sale in the hospital's lobby from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday ... 70 percent off lots of leather goods. They would love to have you browse and buy.

Finally, Kids in Transition is holding a raffle to buy shoes for kids that can't afford them; call Rose Stieha for tickets at 882-5818. You will be making a good difference, with thanks.

Here's your joke, Tito: Dave Campbell wrote in that McDonald's has an Obama Value Meal. You order what you want and the guy behind you pays for it. We like it already. Have a good week.
