Fatal accident in Mound House

One person died following an accident this afternoon in Mound House.

According to Trooper Chuck Allen, a 2008 Toyota van collided with a 2000 Toyota pickup in the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 East near Jeanette Drive.

The other driver also was injured.

The accident happened about 4:15 p.m. and the highway was closed for about a half an hour two accommodate two Care Flight helicopters.

Allen said one driver had to be extricated from a vehicle, but both were transported to the hospital by helicopter.

The eastbound lanes were backed up for more than two hours from the Virginia City turnoff to Dump Hill.
