The High Desert Rockers, a group of people with a passion for rocks, gems, minerals, geology and the land, meet once a month.

The Aug. 31 meeting starts at 6:30 pm, at the new Nevada National Guard Center, 2460 Fairview Drive, Carson City. Check in at the guardhouse, be prepared to show identification.

"We will educate you, entertain you, offer you snacks and free stuff, and we won't charge you a dime to get in," said Kris Tengberg.

Featured guest will be Ernie Winters, with a special presentation on Nevada ghost towns and rockhounding. He will share a wealth of information on ghost towns, rock art, the Pony Express, and Immigrant trails.

"We'll tell you about upcoming field trips and get you signed up to go, and we're taking names for the gold panning class, which will fill up soon. You will have a chance to meet fellow rockhounds, see geology exhibits and pick up lots of literature. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, and a sell/trade area, so bring your stuff," Tengberg said.
