In addition to managing massive budget cuts, the Carson City School Board also had to deal with internal upheaval in 2009.
Three board members resigned throughout the year, beginning in January with Bob Crowell, who was elected mayor in November 2008.
Lynette Conrad was appointed to fill his position.
The resignation of trustee Joe Enge came with more controversy. Enge called an arrest in January for drunken driving a "life-changing moment."
In February, fellow members of the Carson City School Board cast a formal vote urging him to resign. He refused, saying it was a personal matter.
Enge resigned on Aug. 6 after his second alcohol-related arrest in a year.
Former school board member Stacie Wilke was appointed to fill his vacant seat.
The final turnover came when former president Barbara Howe left in October to take a job in California. Randy Carlson was chosen to fill that seat.
Despite the relative turmoil, the Carson City School Board was selected as the state's board of the year by the Nevada Association of School Boards.
