LAS VEGAS - Five of about a dozen Republicans hoping to win a shot to run against U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in this year's election appealed to supporters of a conservative group planning a nationwide tour.

The Tea Party Express meeting on Tuesday in Las Vegas drew about 100 supporters. Many hope to oust the four-term Nevada Democrat during the midterm elections this year.

Candidates who attended include former Nevada Republican Party chairwoman Sue Lowden, former UNLV basketball star Danny Tarkanian, ex-Marine Bill Parson, former radio host Mike Wiley and former Reno assemblywoman Sharron Angle.

The rally came as the group's political action committee launched a television campaign ad against Reid expected to be part of a $1 million campaign.
