Vegas mayor says he won't run for Nevada governor

LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman says he's not going to run for governor.

Goodman told reporters at City Hall on Monday that he seriously considered running. But he says he had to consider what's most important for him and his wife.

Polls had shown the 70-year-old Goodman would be a contender for governor against several Republicans, including incumbent Gov. Jim Gibbons.

Goodman is term-limited and cannot seek a fourth term as mayor in 2011. He has floated the idea of his wife, Carolyn Goodman, succeeding him in office.

The couple switched political party affiliations last month from Democrat to nonpartisan.

If Goodman ran for governor as a Democrat, he'd face Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid. Reid is the son of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
