RENO (AP) - A federal judge has ordered the cash-strapped city of Reno to pay more than $250,000 to two lawyers for a man who was wrongfully arrested.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert McQuaid on June 28 ordered that $264,158 be paid to civil rights attorneys Terri Keyser-Cooper of Reno and Diane Vaillancourt of Santa Cruz, Calif.
They represented Robert B. Wheeler Sr., who settled with the city for $50,000 after being arrested in 2005 for allegedly violating a restraining order that a judge hadn't issued. He claims his arrest by a rookie officer caused him to lose his job and home.
