Good Templers' picnic: The members of Union Lodge No. 4 and Empire No. 1 held a picnic at Bowers Mansion. Music was furnished by the Carson Guard, followed by a young ladies' race. Miss Hannah Barret of Empire was declared winner, but the race was run over. Maggie Morris, won this with ease, the prize was a fine writing desk. In the old man's race, Sam Neyes got the cake in the shape of an elegant toilet seat. For the egg race, there were six lady contestants, won by Mrs. Cook of Empire.

All sorts: Dick Raycraft has a trained cat at his stable that performs numerous interesting tricks.

Marvin Sedway, Assemblyman, died at his Las Vegas home. He was chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee.

10 YEARS AGO

A bid date for the Carson City freeway will be delayed as issues relating to drainage and right-of-way costs force the bid date to November 2001.
