A discount theater chain is scheduled to open in Carson City later this month in the former Northgate Theater, 2571 N. Carson St.

Todd Bloomhuff, owner of Bloomhuff Entertainment Inc. and Bloomhuff Theaters, has theaters in Reno, Tahoe City, Incline Village and Kings Beach as well as locations in California and New Mexico.

The four-screen Stadium Floor Cinema will charge $3 and show films four to six weeks after their release date. He said he also will show independent, art house films.

"It will be a discount house, but a top-of-the-

line discount house,"

Bloomhuff said.

Meanwhile, Bloomhuff is repainting the interior, adding marble decor and upgrading equipment. It's still under construction.

"In our market these days, the typical family of four has a really difficult time going to the movies on a regular basis," he said. "At $3 a ticket, a family of four can come see a movie for $12."

The former Northgate Theater 10 closed in 2008 after originally opening in 1980. The theater had lost business despite reducing ticket prices to $1 after the all-digital Galaxy Fandango Theater opened in south Carson City.

An opening date for Stadium Floor will be announced later.
