Butler misses on qualifying for RTO by one shot

Former Carson High gfolf coach Rod Butler just missed qualifying for this week's Reno-Tahoe Open golf tournament.

Butler shot a 4-under-par 68 at Hidden Valley Country Club in the final qualifier Monday afternoon. He had shot a 73 at Arrowcreek the week before to advance to the second round.

"I figured it would take a 67 to have a good chance," Butler said. "I ended up a little short of that."

The top two qualifers shot a 65 and 66, respectivel;y. There were three 67s, and those golfers had to go through a sudden-death playoff to determine the final qualifer.

Butler said he only had about 10 days to prepare because he found out about the event so late this summer.
