Principal uses GPS to locate stolen iPad

The owner of a stolen Apple iPad used her phone and the tablet computer's GPS locator to track it down to a Carson City trailer home Thursday.

After she pinpointed the location of her iPad, Michelle Engerbreton, the principal of Bailey Charter Elementary School in Reno, called the Carson City Sheriff's department to help her recover the iPad from the trailer on the 2400 block of Poole Way.

When police approached the home, Christopher Cave, 24, answered the door. He then allegedly told the police, "it's inside," and that he purchased the tablet computer from a child at the school around 4:30 p.m. for $50, according to police.

He worked as a janitor at the school.

Cave was arrested at 7:41 p.m. on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property over $1,000. Police also searched Cave's residence and arrested him on suspicion of two felony counts of possession of a prescription drug without a prescription and misdemeanors of possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cave was booked into Carson City jail. Bail was set at $32,264.

Police said Engerbreton had downloaded an application to her phone that allowed her to see where the stolen iPad was on a map.
