A man was jailed Wednesday after he rolled his convertible - top down and without wearing his seat belt - four times on the Carson City freeway then fled the scene uninjured, police said.
Jeremy Zaval, 32, of Reno was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to wear a seat belt.
"He's the luckiest guy in the world today. Somehow he stayed in the car," said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Matt Kaplan.
According to Kaplan, motorists on U.S. 395 called NHP dispatch around noon to report a southbound Mitsubishi Spyder driving recklessly near the Mount Rose intersection.
Troopers were unable to locate the vehicle.
Shortly after noon, Carson City dispatchers received a call that a Mitsubishi driving south in excess of 100 mph lost control just before the College Parkway exit on the Carson City Freeway.
"Reports are that the car struck the wall four times and landed on its wheels in the median," said Kaplan.
Zaval was allegedly seen jumping out of the vehicle and into a passerby's Toyota Tacoma.
Responding officers searched the area immediately around the accident to determine if someone had been thrown from the wreckage. The driver of the Tacoma then contacted deputies to report he had dropped Zaval off at Michael's Cycles in Carson City.
Troopers located Zaval there and he allegedly admitted to being the driver.
A preliminary breath test indicated he was not under the influence of alcohol.
Law enforcement officers were amazed Zaval wasn't thrown from the car.
"The laws of physics worked just right for him to stay in the vehicle," said Kaplan.
