2 sought in Colo. child death returned from Nevada

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - A fugitive couple sought in the death of a 9-year-old girl whose body was found in a vacant home have returned to Colorado after their arrest at a Nevada motel.

Sheriff's deputy Teresa Murphy said Hanif Sims and his girlfriend, Monique Lynch, arrived in Colorado's El Paso County on Saturday. They had been jailed in Henderson since their arrest July 7 in southern Nevada.

Sims and Lynch, both 29, were sought after the body of Sims' daughter was found May 14 in the crawl space of a town home in Monument, Colo., which is about 50 miles south of Denver.

Sims faces assault and child abuse causing death charges and is being held on $750,000 bail. Lynch faces a child abuse resulting in death charge and is being held on $500,000 bail.

Investigators had been looking for Lynch and Sims since construction workers found the child's body on May 14. The cause of death hasn't not been released.

The couple moved out of the home early last year. Investigators believed that Sims and Lynch lived in a Los Angeles homeless shelter from March until December 2009.

Authorities say a Facebook message led investigators to the couple.

The couple's two other children weren't with them when they were arrested. Authorities have said the couple left the children with a friend in California and the boys were later taken by the California Department of Human Services.
