Children's Museum seeks rummage items

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada is accepting donations for a fundraiser rummage sale, will take place form 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 12.

Drop off tax-deductible donations of household goods, small appliances, decorative items, toys, jewelry, electronics, etc. from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily at the museum, 813 N. Carson St. No large appliances or clothing.

Model T experts to give seminar

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will host nationally recognized Model T engine restorers Ed Katzorke and Milt Webb at a Model T transmission reassembly seminar at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Washoe Valley.

"We're thrilled to have mechanics of this caliber conduct this workshop for our club members and anyone else interested in the restoration of Model T Fords," said club president Wendell Newman. "Between them, Mr. Katzorke and Mr. Webb have many years of experience in restoring Model T Ford engines, transmissions and differentials."

The Silver State Model T Ford Club is made up of Model T Ford enthusiasts.

"Whether your car is running or is a project car, we welcome your attendance at our monthly meetings," Newman said. "Our members help each other with restoration questions and get together for regular activities to learn more about their T's and to have fun with these century-old cars."

Garden tour benefits historical society

Tour some of Carson City's most beautiful gardens Sunday during the Carson City Historical Society's "Through the Garden Gate" tour from noon-5 p.m.

The tour begins at the Foreman-Roberts House, 1207 N. Carson St. There will be music and surprises along the way.

Book-signing set for Border's Books

A book-signing for self-published author Mary Randall will be from noon to 2 p.m. June 5 at Border's book store, 911 Topsy Lane in north Douglas County.

The book title, "A Walk Through The Woods," is an adventure story about a boy named Bobby and his pals who encounter talking animals, mysteries, secrets, twists and turns and a standoff with a gang of thieves, while feeling the action of BMX and motocross.

Membership planned for contra dance group

The Fun Family Dance! contra dance group will become a membership organization in July. The dues will be $25 per year for adults, $10 per year for youth 16-25, and $40 for families.

Members who registered at the June dances will receive special discounts.

Benefits include 20 percent discount on dance admissions, usually 11 regular dances per year, and discounts at other contra dances sponsored by CDSS affiliates.

Fun Family Dance! has a wonderful community to dance and socialize with, a great band - Train Wreck - and skilled callers Darla, George, Dan and visiting callers.

Membership dues pay for hall rental and overhead expenses such as insurance and membership in the Country Song and Dance Society. The admission fees pay the band, and on occasion, the callers.

Reservations for Girls State tea

The Capitol Unit 4 of the American Legion Auxiliary is having a Girls State Benefit Tea at the Governor's Mansion at 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 18. Light appetizers and beverages will be served.

The proceeds from the silent auction, raffle and tickets sales will benefit Girls State delegate scholarships from Carson and Douglas High schools.

Presale tickets are required and cost $5. No tickets will be sold after June 9.

Free stargazing event at Dangberg Home Ranch park

Nevada State Parks invites the public to attend a free stargazing event 8-10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden.

Members of the Astronomical Society of Nevada will provide telescopes for the public to view Venus, Mars, Saturn, numerous star galaxies and several star clusters. The public is welcome to bring their own telescopes.

The evening will begin with a brief introduction and lesson on using a telescope. Viewing will start around 9 p.m.

Visitors are encouraged to bring bug repellent, a flashlight with a red lens, a blanket, lawn chairs and a light jacket, as well as water and a snack. Please leave pets at home.

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, located just west of Minden in Douglas County at 1450 Highway 88.

Carson Sertoma golf tournament July 11

The Carson Sertoma annual charity golf tournament is scheduled for July 11 at the Empire Ranch Golf Course. Proceeds go to local children with hearing and speech difficulties, cancer and diabetes.

The tournament is a four person scramble. The entry fee of $100 includes golf, cart, tee prizes, raffle ticket, and a barbecue lunch. There will be awards for men's and women's long drives and closest to the hole. If local men's and women's clubs challenge each other by designating a Club team, trophies will be awarded to the winning teams for local "bragging rights." Entry also includes a ticket for the door prize.

Hole sponsorships are $100 and $150 for tee/green sponsorships.

Douglas storytime moves outside

The Douglas County Public Library will move its weekly storytime to Lampe Park today. It will continue every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. through Aug. 25.

Children ages three and older are invited to attend. The program includes stories, music, and crafts. Shop at the farmers market while your children listen to stories in the park. For more information call the Minden Library at 775-782-9841.
