Railroad Museum offers steam train, motor car rides

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City offers a full operating schedule of steam trains and motor car rides during the month of June. Visitors will ride aboard a historic steam train or the museum's fully restored Edwards Motor Car.

The Edwards Motor Car runs today, Sunday, June 12-13 and 26-27.

The steam train V&T No. 25 runs June 19-20.

Trains depart from the historic Wabuska Depot at the museum for the short trip around the grounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The Edwards Railway Motor Car Company was formed in the early 1920s by Harry P. Edwards to construct gasoline-powered railcars, or "doodlebugs" as they were commonly called. The cars were marketed primarily for shortline and branchline service.

Motor car fares are $4 for adults 12 and older; $2 for children 4-11, and free for children 3 and younger.

Fares for steam-ups are

$5 for adults 12 and older; $3 for children 4-11, and free for children 3 and younger.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum, 2180 S. Carson St., is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday through Monday. For more information, call 687-6953.
