June 12, 1925 - June 16, 2010

A memorial service for Arlene Chapman Batis, 85, a Carson City resident for the past 33 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22 at First Presbyterian Church in Carson City, with pastor Bruce Kochsmeier officiating.

With her family by her side, she passed away peacefully into the arms of her soul mate Henry Batis. Henry had been waiting for her. You see, they were going dancing. Arlene put on her dancing shoes and they danced through the clouds.

She was born June 12,1925 in Utica, N.Y., to Kenneth and Gertrude (Tallman).

She married Henry Batis on Jan. 6,1945 in Fayetteville, N.C., while they were both stationed at the Marine Corps in Camp LeJune, N.C.

Arlene had a passion for planting flowers in her garden. She had a green thumb. Every year at springtime the flowers would bloom like the colors of the rainbow. Sewing was in her blood. She learned these skills from her grandmother.

Arlene had many jobs over the years. But the best job was being a wife, mother and grandmother as well as a good friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Batis, her son Jan Batis and her brother Lester Chapman.

Among her survivors are her brother Bob Chapman of New York; daughters Donna of Carson City (Raymond) and Denise of Roseville, Calif., (Jimmy); grandchildren Susan, Jason, Adam and Eleni; and best friend Joy Kearns, along with many, many close friends.

Interment will be held at a later date at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 306 W. Musser St., Carson City, NV 89703.
