Carson City Supervisor Pete Livermore, whose term expires at the end of this year, filed Friday for the state Assembly District 40 seat being vacated by Bonnie Parnell.
Livermore, a Republican, said he believes he has a great deal to offer the Legislature.
"I have been a champion for the people of Carson City for many years, and I want to continue to serve them. I want to make sure that we continue to be frugal with the public's money, and I want to make sure the state doesn't balance its needs on the backs of local government."
Livermore, 68, has lived in Carson City since 1960. He was a small business operator from 1971 through 2004.
"I still need to wrap my head around all the legislative issues, but as a supervisor, I've always been involved in all the legislative packages of the city, and I think my background in government gives me an edge," he said.
Livermore and his wife Laurie have been married for 48 years. They have two sons, a daughter and four grandchildren.
Amy Renee Clemens, also a Republican, has filed for the Assembly District 40 seat, as has Carson City Supervisor Robin Williamson, a Democrat.
