Carson's Blueburg spurs rebound after lopsided loss

It was a different Carson High baseball team that took the field Friday morning on the second day of the Carson Preseason Tournament.

"We definitely had a different mindset," Carson coach Cody Farnworth said. "Maybe it was first game jitters. What we saw Thursday night wasn't what we'd been seeing in practice."

Colby Blueberg threw a no-hitter with five strikeouts, and Nick Domitrovich went 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs to lead the Senators to a 12-0 win over Pershing County at Ron McNutt Field in a game called after four innings because of the 10-run rule.

Blueberg was sterling on the hill, throwing just 54 pitches. Pershing County managed just two baserunners, both on walks.

"He was very efficient," Farnworth said. "He had good pop. He'll be a key for us in terms of pitching."

Blueberg showed no nerves despite the fact it was his first pitching start ever at Carson.

"You have to act like you've been there before," he said. "My defense worked well behind me.

"I was hoping the wind wouldn't effect me. I just wanted to get out there and throw strikes."

Blueberg got all the support he needed in the first inning when Carson hammered Pershing County starter Mark Hostman for five runs.

Rory Petersen drew a one-out walk and Domitrovich, who missed Thursday's opener because he didn't have the required 10 practice days, hammered a homer to deep right.

"It was a fastball, low and away," Domitrovich said. "I had to reach out for it."

David Charles drew a walk, moved to third on a double by Austin Pacheco and scored on a single between third and short by Cameron Mayville. After David Feltner flied out to right, Bryce Altus hit a hard groundball up the middle that went off Hostman's glove for a single to score Pacheco and make it 4-0. The fifth run scored on a throwing error.

Carson tacked on two more in the second. Petersen walked, moved to third on a single by Domitrovich and scored on a double by Charles. Pacheco brought in the second run on a squeeze play.

Carson put the game away with five more in the third, as Shea Bondi, Mayville, Connor Beattie, Domitrovich and Petersen drove in runs. Bondi's RBI was on a sacrifice fly, while the other four runs came in on hits.

It was an impressive start for Domitrovich, who claimed he didn't have any first-game jitters. Certainly 3-for-3 with three RBIs was an impressive way to break in.

"It feels great. It was nice," Domitrovich said. "I played all summer with the varsity, so I wasn't really nervous."
