Manager says plans to fill Gottschalks are progressing

Kevin Ray, the property manager for the Carson Mall, said mall owner Francis Carrington visited the mall last week to learn about the remodel project.

Ray said there are plans to possibly split the former Gottschalks department store into three sections that would house three separate national retailers.

Ray said the mall is in talks with a sporting goods seller and two clothing stores to potentially fill the space.

In other mall news, Ruho Lmt., a consignment shop at the Carson Mall, is no longer in business, while Bellissimo, a clothing store, will open a location in the Carson Mall soon.


New advertising account manager at the Nevada Appeal

The Nevada Appeal has hired Lisa Gallaway as its event and entertainment key account manager in advertising retail.

Gallaway earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics from the University of San Diego and a Masters of Arts in Sports Management from the University of San Francisco.

Before coming to the Nevada Appeal she was the western regional director with Sperry Van Ness, a commercial real estate firm.


Mixer planned for young professionals

The Young Business Professionals in Carson City will hold a mixer on March 30 at Carson Lanes, 4600 Snyder Ave., for bowling and networking.

The event last from 5:25 p.m. to 8:25 p.m. Families are welcome.


Golf course manager named professional of year

Jim Kepler, the general manager of the Eagle Valley Golf Course, has been awarded the Golf Professional of the Year Award by the Northern California PGA.

The NCPGA said Kepler, who has spent 30 years in the golfing business, has increased play while in charge of the Carson City golf course.

"His overall performance as a golf professional is one of accomplishment and remarkable results," the NCPGA wrote of Kepler in its Winter 2010 Tee. Shots magazine.


Raffle tickets for local coin show

Downtown Coin, 111 W. Telegraph St., is selling raffle tickets for its coin show in May.

Tickets are $1 or $5 for 6 or $10 for 12. Prizes include a $5 liberty gold piece for first prize, a 10 ounce silver bar for second and a Carson City GSA Morgan dollar for third.

The coin show will be on May 15 and 16 inside the Carson Nugget. A couple dozen coin traders will attend.

Promotion at EDAWN

The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada promoted Rae McElroy to vice president of investor relations and administration.

McElroy joined the economic development group that works to attract companies to the region in 2001.


Chiropractor hired in Carson City

Carson Tahoe Chiropractic has hired Malinda Rasmussen, a 2009 graduate of Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Ore.

She joins John Ediss of Pure Essence Massage, and Health Care Alternatives at 601 East Washington St.

Rasmussen offers services during the lunch hour and on Saturday by appointment, which can be scheduled by calling 775-882-7085.


Sandoval to speak at next NBC breakfast

Nevada Business Connections will hold its next breakfast meeting on April 22 at 8 a.m. inside the Atlantic Casino in Reno.

The event will feature Republican gubernatorial candidate and former U.S. District Judge Brian Sandoval and John Dunn, representing Nevadans 4 Carbon Free Energy.

NBC, a private business recruiter for the region based in Carson City, also announced last week that it has added its 200th member after 20 months in existence.


Area cell phone salesmen awarded by Verizon

Two Carson City Verizon Wireless employees were recognized by their company last week.

Russell Lenhares, retail assistant manager, and Jeff Hargrove, assistant retail manager, were awarded membership in Verizon Wireless' President's Cabinet.

The honor is reserved for the top 1 percent of the companies 18,000-person-strong sales force in sales during 2009.
