Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels: Thumbs down to return of winter weather

The Nevada Appeal's "Silver Dollar" and "Wooden Nickel" feature recognizes positive achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out others that missed the mark.

Silver Dollar: To Carson City Kiwanis, organizer Bobby Bean and volunteers who boiled, dyed and stuffed the thousands of real and plastic eggs that will be snatched up Saturday at the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Centennial Park. It takes a lot of work to put on an event of this magnitude for the whole community, and Bean and all his helpers deserve a big thank you from all of us. Silver Dollar: To Carson City's Peggy Willis, who was named the Workplace Hero at the Red Cross Real Heroes breakfast on Thursday. Willis was honored for reviving her supervisor, Dennis Sannebeck, whose heart had stopped. Wooden Nickel: To winter, which made a reappearance last week after we all (foolishly) started to get used to nice warm weather. Even longtime Nevadans fall for Mother Nature's annual spring tease - stretches of warm weather followed by arctic blasts. Today is no exception: After getting a dusting of snow last week, today's high is predicted to hit 68, then drop to mid-40s this week. Those 30-degree swings can give a person whiplash. Nevada weather ... gotta love it.
