Ruth Jane Pier, 78, of Carson City, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010 at home with her family by her side. Born in Lorain, Ohio, April 21, 1931 she was the fifth child of Albert and Mary Schramm, now deceased.

In 1956 she married Robert Paul Pier in Minden. Ruth, at her husband's side, traveled to many duty stations while Robert served his country in the United States Marine Corps. During this time Ruth kept the home fires burning for their four children. In 1971 Bob's retirement from the USMC brought Ruth and her family home to Carson City. Upon their return Ruth worked for the State of Nevada, retiring in 1989. For the last 20 years she and Bob managed both University Heights and Sierra Madre Apartments. She retired in January 2010. Ruth's many accomplishments include coaching softball; chaperoning the schools ski buses; making each birthday and every holiday special for all of her family members; brightening the day of everyone who knew her when she and Bob went to their favorite places; making sure that people who may have been overlooked were taken care of. Never faltering always moving forward.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 54 years Bob; a son Mitchell Pier of Carson City; three daughters Nancy Kenison of Minden, Teri Purvis of Brighton, Colo. and Sandra NyBlom of Minden; one brother Charles Schramm of Null, S.C. and one sister Marilyn Bayer of Hillside, Mich.; twelve grandchildren Jessica, Lynzey, Jared, Cameron, Katie, Ryan, Samantha, Kristen, Sarah, Megan, Becky and Bobby; ten great-grandchildren Ivy, McKenzee, Joey, Ryder, Dilynn, Carter, Robbie, Jayce, Aleyna and Kellen.

Ruth was preceded in death by her three brothers Dwight Schramm, Roland Schramm and Albert Schramm and one sister Gwendlyon Chase.

A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday at Autumn Funerals & Cremation, 1575 N. Lompa Lane, Carson City, Nev. After which a "Celebration of Life" will be held at her home.
