Library News & Notes: Arts series showcases authors

With her award winning first novel, "Freeze Frame," Carson City native Heidi Ayarbe influenced, empowered and enriched the lives of teens and adults worldwide. Her second, equally compelling novel, "Compromised" debuts May 4, along with the paperback edition of "Freeze Frame."

Heidi will share this momentous event with her Carson City family, friends and fans. In addition to the "First Pages" contest currently in progress at Carson High (the winner will have a character named after him/her in Ayarbe's next novel, as well as a free classroom visit/writing workshop), Heidi will conduct two workshops at the library.

The writing workshop, with an intriguing section entitled, "Creating Fantastic Characters and Killing Them Off," focuses on the road to publishing and will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. May 11 in the library auditorium. Her second workshop will be held from 1-2 p.m. May 15 and attendees will be treated to readings from her latest novel.

Heidi's fan base is considerable, with students and adults alike vying to be her biggest NFF (non-family-fan). Seating is limited, and based on the line that wound through downtown when the library and Comma Coffee hosted her first book launch, it might be wise to get there early. The doors open a half an hour before the event.

Library Foundation searches for new board members

For those civic minded, visionary individuals interested in becoming involved in the fantastic future of the Carson City Library, the Library Foundation is offering a unique opportunity.

A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the library for those interested in becoming a member of the Foundation Board.

It has been said that once in a lifetime a community gets the chance to build a library.

If this dream is to become a reality, the Library Foundation will be instrumental in every aspect of the project. Just as the library has materials and technology for every interest, it also has a cadre of amazing, talented individuals who contribute to its success. Check out the future, check out the opportunities, check out the library.
