Cruise nights get underway in Carson City on May 20 and will continue every Thursday through July, ahead of the Silver Dollar Classic Car Show, July 31-Aug. 1.

Each cruise night will be hosted by a different business, with the first taking place from 6-8 p.m., at K9 Dog House Gourmet Hotdogs at 3250 Retail Road, Ste. 100, off College Parkway.

"These are family-friendly evenings where everybody with a cool car, or who thinks they have a cool car can come out and show what they have," said Joy Evans, event planner for the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The Thursday night cruises flow into our major event and provide a family-friendly venue that's free to (show in) and free to the public."

There will be a disc jockey at all venues but Carson Hot Springs, where there will be live music.

"We're looking forward to hosting this evening and are looking to (bring in) other car and bike clubs," said Mike Cramer, who owns K9 with his wife, Jan. "This is a fun, family-friendly place - we allow writing on the walls - and these events fit that old-style feel of keep it clean, be respectful and have fun."

Thursday cruise nights bring in anywhere from 30 to 60 cars, Evans said, adding the hometown, friendly feel extends into the Silver Dollar Classic Car Show, an ambiance that keeps participants and vendors alike coming back each year.
