Obituary: Rolland J Morey

Rolland J Morey, 80, a Carson City resident for 20 years, passed away May 15, 2010, surrounded by his family. Ron, as he was known to his friends, was born May 21, 1929, in Bladen, Neb., and moved to Bertrand, Neb., where he worked as a mechanic with his father for several years. His two greatest loves, his high-school sweetheart Shirley and his avid interest in Nebraska Cornhusker football, were formed there.

The family moved to Sacramento, Calif., in 1957 and to Ridgecrest, Calif., in 1966, where Ron worked for the China Lake Naval Weapons Base for 23 years. Ron was awarded the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his work as head of the Ordinance Test and Evaluation Division and as chairman of the Multi Service Test Investment Review Committee. Ron spent many hours serving the Carson City community through his work with Sertoma Civic Organization and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley; sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Jim Howat of Lincoln, Neb.; children Victoria and George Hamilton, Carson City, Rebecca and Mike Clark, of Bakersfield, Calif., Steven and Angela Morey, Lenoir City, Tenn., and Daniel and Shonna Morey of Victorville, Calif.; 11 beloved grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents Don and Frances Morey and his sister Marjorie Sims.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20 at St Paul's Lutheran Church, Carson City. Arrangements are in the trusted care of Autumn Funerals and Cremations of Carson City.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The American Heart Association and to the Saint Mary's Hospice Foundation, 520 W 6th St., Reno, NV 89503-9911.
