The Carson Sertoma Club is entering its 47th consecutive year in Carson City with a membership drive and request for partners and friends.

The club's main mission is to raise funds for local children with hearing and speech problems, cancer and diabetes, and also sponsor other charitable groups in Carson as the funds allow.

Recipients from the 2009-10 program included the Carson School District for Speech and Hearing, Angel Kiss, Carson Advocates For Cancer Victims, Nevada Diabetes Association For Children and Adults, OARC, FISH, Carson Senior Center, and the Carson City Guide Dog Club.

Funds are raised by three main fundraisers: a family music program with dinner in the spring, a golf tournament in the summer, and a football book program in the fall.

The club has weekly meetings, Wednesdays at noon at Q's Restaurant. Two socials are also planned each year.

Membership is open to all men and women at least 18 years old who wish to help the children and needy in Carson City. Luncheon guests are always welcome.

Sertoma also has a partnership and friends program for business and individuals who what to contribute to the club's projects but no join.

The Partner With Sertoma program is for businesses that make an annual $300 contribution to the club.

Any questions on any of these programs, please call Frank Taylor at 885-7579.
