The Nevada Appeal's "Silver Dollar" and "Wooden Nickel" feature recognizes positive achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out others that missed the mark.

Silver dollar: To the largest graduating class from Western Nevada College. Many graduates worked while attending school, giving up time with family and friends. Your sacrifice and determination has paid off.

Silver dollar: An additional silver dollar should go to all of the area high school students who are graduating this week. The diploma you receive is a token of your hard work and a key to your success. Congratulations on this culminating achievement. May your futures be bright.

Silver dollar: To Partnership Carson City, its division of Hispanic services, Communidad Latina Unidas, and the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada, for working together to combat illiteracy and help people on the path to citizenship. Combining forces will make all stronger in their fight to make Carson City a better place to live.

Silver dollar: To all our participants in the Get Fit Challenge, and the local fitness and nutrition experts who are sharing their knowledge to help Carson City residents live healthy lives. Read about the Get Fit Challenge, and local organizations who are working to instill a love of exercise in area children, in Friday's Nevada Appeal.
